VISITING NURSE SHOT BY PATIENT

A 69 YEAR OLD MENTALLY ILL WOMAN SHOT HER HOME-CARE NURSE IN THE SIDE OF THE HEAD YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AT A HOUSE ALONG ASHLAND ROAD IN DECATUR TOWNSHIP, CLEARFIELD COUNTY. POLICE SAY THE WOMEN ARGUED AND THE PATIENT PULLED A GUN. AFTER THE 26 YEAR OLD NURSE WAS SHOT, SHE TRIED TO DRIVE TO A HOSPITAL BUT STOPPED AT A HOME A COUPLE MILES DOWN THE STREET. COINCIDENTALLY, THE WOMAN WHO LIVES THERE IS ALSO A NURSE WHO WAS ABLE TO HELP UNTIL AN AMBULANCE ARRIVED TO TAKE THE VICTIM TO ALTOONA HOSPITAL FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY. SHE’S LISTED IN STABLE BUT GUARDED CONDITION. POLICE CALLED THE ALLEGED SHOOTER AND CONVINCED HER TO SURRENDER WITHOUT INCIDENT.
SHE WAS ARRAIGNED LATE LAST NIGHT.

HUSBAND & FATHER WILL PLEAD GUILTY TO MURDER

LOUIS BEATTY OF SOUTH MAHONING TOWNSHIP, INDIANA COUNTY, IS TO ENTER A PLEA AND BE SENTENCED TODAY FOR KILLING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE AND 2 DAUGHTERS, AGES 11 AND 6. STATE POLICE SAY BEATTY STABBED CHRISTINE, AMANDA, AND SARA IN THE NECK…THEN SET FIRE TO THEIR MOBILE HOME AND HIS OWN TRAILER. A NEIGHBOR RESCUED BEATTY FROM THE FLAMES OF HIS HOME. IT HAPPENED BACK IN JUNE…AND BEATTY ALSO KILLED SEVERAL FAMILY PETS.

DEADLY WRECK IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY

A CLEARFIELD COUNTY MAN IS DEAD FOLLOWING A CRASH LAST EVENING ALONG STATE ROUTE 153 IN PINE TOWNSHIP. STATE POLICE SAY 68 YEAR OLD GEORGE PEARSON OF CLEARFIELD STRUCK AN EMBANKMENT AND HIS PICKUP ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. PEARSON WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

ZOO REMOVING DECK

THE PITTSBURGH ZOO IS REMOVING THE OBSERVATION DECK THAT 2-YEAR-OLD MADDOX DERKOSH FELL FROM LAST MONTH. HE WAS FATALLY MAULED BY WILD AFRICAN DOGS IN THE EXHIBIT BELOW. ALLEGHENY COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY STEPHEN ZAPPALA SAYS THE BOY’S MOTHER WON’T BE PROSECUTED AND ZAPPALA CALLED MADDOX’S DEATH A TRAGIC ACCIDENT. HIS OFFICE IS STILL INVESTIGATING WHETHER ANYONE AT THE ZOO MIGHT FACE CRIMINAL CHARGES FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THE BOY'S DEATH AND HOW SUCH ACCIDENTS CAN BE PREVENTED.

CHIEF TOM KING SAYS MORE THAN ONE OR 2 SUSPECTS WILL BE CHARGED WITH FURNISHING ALCOHOL TO MINORS.

NATIONAL OFFICIALS WITH CHI OMEGA SORORITY SAY THE PENN STATE CHAPTER WILL BE PLACED ON PROBATION EFFECTIVE MONDAY AFTER RACIALLY INSENSITIVE PHOTOS FROM A MEXICAN-THEMED HALLOWEEN PARTY SHOWED UP ON SOCIAL MEDIA. CORMAN GAVE EMMERT 10 DAYS TO GET BACK TO HIM.

BLAIR & BEDFORD COUNTY TAX HIKES

BLAIR COUNTY OFFICIALS WILL GO TO COURT TODAY, ASKING FOR PERMISSION TO LEVY 27-POINT-459 MILLS OF REAL ESTATE TAXES AS PART OF THE 2013 BUDGET. THAT’S A 3-POINT-5 MILL INCREASE AND THE COUNTY WILL EXCEED 25 MILLS FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2010. BLAIR COUNTY’S LAST TAX HIKE WAS IN 2007.

BEDFORD COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SAY THEY MAY HAVE RAISE PROPERTY TAXES BY AS MUCH AS 10-PERCENT, WHICH IS THE LEGAL LIMIT. THE SPENDING PLAN TOTALS MORE THAN 15 MILLION DOLLARS AND IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC REVIEW. COMMISSIONERS ARE STILL HOPING TO MAKE SOME CUTS.
