FREEZING COLD WEATHER

A wind chill advisory remains in effect for our area until noon today. Frost bite and hypothermia can strike residents after just a short period outside. Temperatures should return closer to average this weekend.

 

PENN STATE TASK FORCE

 A task force examining the possible outsourcing of child care at Penn State’s Bennett Family Center recommends delaying the process. According to the Centre Daily Times, the group told President Rodney Erickson it needed more time to collect additional information. The recommendation was among several delivered to Erickson in a report last week. Still, the group asked Erickson to move quickly and to explore ways to offset the cost of child care for students who are parents. 


BELLEFONTE FIRE DAMAGES HOME

An electrical fire caused damage to a Bellefonte home yesterday afternoon. According to the Centre Daily Times, the fire was extinguished before it spread from the attic. The home is located at 113 Lee Street. Officials say damage was limited to the attic and second floor.


MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SELLING DRUGS

 A 21-year-old State College man will serve two to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of possession and distribution of heroin. Charles Jones was arrested in October after investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police North Central Drug Task Force. At the time of his arrest, police found 63 baggies of heroin in the rear pocket of Jones’ jeans and other drug paraphernalia. 

STATE COLLEGE DELTA PROGRAM

The State College Area School District’s Delta Program will expand to include fifth and sixth grade students beginning next school year. The district’s school board unanimously approved the change last night. According to the Centre Daily Times, the program will stay housed in downtown State College on Fairmount Avenue. However, the location could change upon the completion of the State High project.
