Penn State President

Penn State could name its next president within the coming month. According to the Centre Daily Times, Board of Trustees Chairman Keith Masser told the Penn State Faculty Senate the board hopes to name someone to the position by its November 22nd meeting. Current president Rodney Erickson previously announced his plans to retire by the end of June 2014. Names of candidates could not be released due to confidentially concerned.

Paterno Eyes Congress

 According to Pennlive, former Penn State assistant football coach Jay Paterno is considering running for office. Prominent Democratic figures in Centre County and Pennsylvania say Paterno may challenge Republican incumbent Glenn Thompson to represent the 5th district in United States Congress. Paterno did not comment on the report. However, Pennlive says rumors of Paterno’s aspirations began over the summer.

 

Auction to Benefit Youth

An online auction to benefit Centre County’s new Child Advocacy Center will be held next week. According to Statecollege.com, graduates from Leadership Centre County are hosting the auction, in hopes of raising 10-thousand dollars. Office supply items and furniture will be auctioned off. An auction preview will be held at the Mount Nittany Medical Center on Monday from 4 to 8 pm. The auction closes Wednesday November 6th at 9 pm.
