Flu Clinic

The Pennsylvania Department of Health and public and private partners will be offering free flu clinics throughout Pennsylvania next week during National Influenza Vaccination Week. Flu season typically runs from October through May, and often peaks between January and March. Individuals seeking vaccination from the Department of Health are encouraged to call 877-PA-HEALTH to find a local flu clinic.  

Bellefonte Property

The borough of Bellefonte has purchased a sought after property. According to the Centre Daily Times, the borough purchased the National Guard Armory Property on Zion Road. Bellefonte outbid the Centre County Government by nearly $20,000 to purchase the property. According to the CDT, potential plans for the property include relocation of service departments such as Bellefonte Police and Emergency Medical Services.  

Sexual Assault

A possible sexual assault was reported to State College Police, but authorities aren’t revealing much about the incident. According to police, the victim reported the incident on Wednesday and the attacker was an acquaintance.  Police did not release the location and time of the assault or the genders of those involved.

Corbett Medicaid

Governor Corbett will reveal his proposal today that will look to use billions in federal Medicaid expansion dollars to provide health insurance to half a million uninsured Pennsylvanians.Corbett’s proposal is expected to allow people to buy private market insurance and charge premiums to those with higher incomes. The plan, which would require federal approval, is also expected to impose job search related requirements on individuals who work less than 20 hours per week. Pennsylvania would become the first state to require a job search for Medicaid coverage. 

Crash

One person was injured and taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center yesterday after police said he crashed his vehicle into a small stream near Wingate. According to police, the man was traveling north on Eagle Valley Road when he lost control of his Jeep Grand Cherokee after suffering a medical condition. The man, who was not identified, had to be extricated from the vehicle.
