Bellefonte Woman Killed in Hit and Run
A 32-year-old Bellefonte woman is dead following a hit and run crash on 1-99 southbound yesterday morning in Benner Township. Sherry Houtz was walking along the highway when she was struck by a car or small pick-up truck. The incident occurred between 3:45 and 4:03 a.m. at mile marker 72.6. Police shut down both northbound and southbound lanes immediately following the crash, with northbound, then southbound lanes reopening during the day yesterday. CPI Lands Grant
The Centre County/Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology will receive a $2 million state grant to complete the second phase of its Transportation Training Center. According to a press release, the center is an integral component of workforce training in the Centre area. The grant will allow CPI to train and develop workers in high-demand fields, such as within the natural gas industry. The new training center will be built next to the existing Heavy Equipment Operations Training Ground and will include more than 60,000 square feet of buildings and land.
Penn State Receives Demands
Penn State is reviewing the first round of demands from plaintiffs alleging abuse by Jerry Sandusky. According to Statecollege.com, Penn State counsel Ken Feinberg delivered the demands to University officials on Friday. Feinberg delivered approximately 15 demands to officials in Philadelphia from individuals who have already filed complaints against Penn State. Feinberg added that he expects to hear from more alleged victims soon.
