Thon Raises Record Funds

Penn State students raised more than $12-million to aid the Four Diamonds Fund in the fight against pediatric cancer. The announcement of the $12,374, 034.46 record-setting total wrapped up the annual 46-hour no-sleeping, no-sitting dance marathon yesterday at the Bryce Jordan Center. THON has now raised over $100-million since partnering with the fund in 1977.  The fund provides for medical care, financial and emotional support and research at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Thon is the world’s largest student-run philanthropy.

Bellefonte Bar Faces Charges

A Bellefonte bar is facing a liquor law violation charge for allegedly serving alcohol to a “visibly intoxicated patron.” Police say Omar Bar and Restaurant served a visibly drunk on January 6th. Omar Bar and Restaurant is located at 121 West Bishop Street in the borough. A judge will determine the fine and any additional penalties the business will face.

PA Turnpike Adds Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi service is now available at all operational Pennsylvania Turnpike service plazas. Officials say they added the service for customers hoping to use smartphones, tablets or other portable devices to access the internet while traveling. The Wi-Fi is only accessible from inside plazas and allows access through a free log-in when opening internet browsers. Anyone with questions is encouraged to visit www.paturnpike.com.
