Lawyers for the Paterno family are seeking details about the Big Ten Conference’s communication with the Freeh law firm, NCAA and Penn State during the Jerry Sandusky scandal aftermath. According to court documents, attorneys want the Big Ten and Mayer Brown law firm to turn over documents showing correspondence between the groups. The Paterno family, former players, staff and university members are suing the NCAA hoping to erase sanctions against Penn State. The lawsuit is proceeding in Pennsylvania courts.
STATE COLLEGE ROADWORK
South Garner Street between Easterly Parkway and Nimitz Avenue in State College will be closed today between 7:30 am and 5 pm. Public works crews are repairing a sewer line in the 1200 block. Work is weather permitting.
STATE COLLEGE NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN
Residents will have a final chance to weigh-in on the State College Borough’s Neighborhood Plan on Thursday night. The borough’s Planning Commission will present a draft version of the plan at 7 pm in the downtown municipal building. Public feedback on recommendations is welcome. The draft is also available online at the borough’s website.
WILDFIRE PREVENTION WEEK
It’s wildfire prevention week across Pennsylvania. Governor Tom Corbett says drying March winds and warmer temperatures increase fire dangers across the state’s forests and brush lands. According to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, nearly 85 percent of PA’s wildfires occur in March, April and May. Open fires are prohibited on state forestland from March 1 to May 25.
PENN STATE ALUMNI SURVEY
A survey of Penn State alumni provides a glimpse into the thoughts of graduates towards the university. According to the Centre Daily Times, survey results were published in January but were not discussed until a board of trustees meeting earlier this month. 98% of those surveyed say they were satisfied with their experience as a Penn State student and 86% have positive feelings toward the university. Respondents were also asked if Penn State should publicly honor the contributions of Joe Paterno with 81% favoring recognition.
