Close Call Expected from Winter Storm

A major winter storm is expected to skirt our area later this week. Accuweather says heavy wet snow will cause travel and power disruptions from parts of North Carolina to portions of West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey during the middle of the week. FirstEnergy is encouraging customers to prepare for power outages. Recommendations include keeping a flashlight and extra batteries handy, gathering extra blankets and a sleeping bag and stocking an emergency supply of food and water. 

Robbery Suspect Charged

A 41-year-old Philadelphia man is facing robbery charges in connection to a January 9th armed robbery at Kranich’s Jewelers in downtown State College. Rodger Williams is in custody in Wake County, North Carolina after being arrested for fleeing the scene of another jewelry store robbery in Cary, North Carolina. He is one of three suspects in the State College robbery. Police from North Carolina and Philadelphia contributed to the investigation. 

Sub Shop Robbed

Patton Township Police are investigating an armed robbery at the North Atherton Street Penn State Sub Shop on Sunday evening. Police say a man with a handgun stole an undisclosed sum of money from the business around 8:10 p.m. The suspect is described as a short, white male wearing dark clothing.
