Ferguson Township police are investigating a string of vandalism incidents occurring overnight Friday in the Overlook Heights area. Police say 11 cars and trucks parked on North Atherton Street, Village Drive, East North Hills Place and Curtain Street were entered or damaged. According to police, several items were stolen and some cars suffered slashed tires, scratchers or interior damage. Anyone with information should contact police at 814-237-1172.


Beginning July 1st, CATA Bus fares will climb .25 cents for the first time in four years. According to Statecollege.com, the cash fare will increase from $1.50 to $1.75 with similar increases for bus tokens and passes. Additionally, contributions from Penn State and nine local municipalities will grow. CATA plans to use funds for new buses and facility upgrades.


The State College Borough Council continues to weigh its options, holding a right of first-refusal for the College Heights School property. A sale for the North Atherton street location is pending between the State College Area School District and Penn State. However, according to Statecollege.com, council is considering purchasing the school and then leasing it to other organizations. A final decision looms in June.


State College’s Schlow Library is closed through noon on May 19th to cut costs due to budget limitations. The temporary shutdown began yesterday morning. According to the Centre Daily Times, the library, parking lot and book returns are all closed and no loaned materials are due, no late fees will be charged and programs are cancelled. The library’s website says no other shutdowns are planned in 2014.
