Penn State Medical Care Questioned
Penn State is strongly denying claims made in a Sports Illustrated article that changes in medical staff for the University’s football team have lessened care for the team’s players. The article alleges a long-time feud between Athletic Director Dr. Dave Joyner and former team physician Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli and financial motives prompted the change. Penn State officials, Joyner and head football coach Bill O’Brien all denied accusations. O’Brien says he decided to change the team’s medical staff after a year-long evaluation and that players continue to receive top-notch care. Sebastianelli remains with Penn State as the Director of Athletic Medicine for all athletic teams.
