South Burrowes Street between West College Avenue and Calder Way in downtown State College will be closed on Monday and Tuesday next week. The State College Borough Water Authority is replacing a water line underneath College Avenue. All businesses will remain open during construction throughout the summer along College Avenue.


State College Area School District residents are invited to tour the district’s high school facilities and meet with the district’s board of directors Saturday morning. The tours take place at 10 am and 10:15 am, originating from the high school’s south auditorium lobby. School board members will be available to answer questions and listen to feedback from residents with the May 20th high school referendum closing approaching. Tours will last about an hour. Coffee will be served.


The Centre Foundation is debuting a new grant program to fund projects addressing a major need in Centre County. According to Statecollege.com, the new ‘Centre Inspires’ program will provide up to $100,000 in grants annually. The program will focus on a different issue each year. Three informational sessions are planned for interested organizations, with the first set for May 27th from 4 to 5 pm at the foundation’s office. 


Police say a diabetic emergency yesterday afternoon caused a crash, injuring two, on South Atherton Street in State College. Police say 32-year-old Layne Halfpenny did not recall the accident after suffering a health emergency causing his car to crash head-on with a car the turning lane. Both drivers were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment. The incident occurred around 2:30 pm near Meyer Dairy.
