COLLEGE TOWNSHIP CONSTRUCTION

Short delays are possible next week in the 1300 block of Charles Street to Goldfinch Drive in College Township. Crews will be completing new concrete curb construction beginning on Tuesday at 7 am.

STATE COLLEGE RESPONDS

The State College Area School District is fighting back against a lawsuit attempting to reclaim the College Heights School property. According to the Centre Daily Times, a lawsuit by the heirs of Adam and Rebecca Krumrine demands the district return to property because the building is no longer being used as a school. However, in a filing this week, district officials say a sale to Penn State is legal. The district argues the language in the provision is outdated and also doesn’t apply because Penn State categorically is a school.

AIRPORT GRANT RECEIVED

A state grant will help the University Park Airport continue to grow. According to Statecollege.com, the airport will receive a $350,000 grant, which will be used to expand parking. The expansion will add 60 to 80 parking spots and could be complete by the end of 2015. The report says planning has been ongoing for the past two years and the parking addition is part of a 20 year master plan.

UBER AND LYFT CAUSING CHANGE

Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering change to accommodate popular app-based ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft. According to Pennlive, the Public Utility Commission is gathering testimony for the fall legislative window. Currently, no legal classification is in place for companies to expand into areas of Pennsylvania. The app allows passengers to pick rides of other users for transport and rate performances for other app users. All payment is through a credit card stored in the app.


PENN STATE STUDENT CHARGED

A 21-year-old Penn State student allegedly raped a woman early Wednesday morning at The Park at State College apartments on Blue Course Drive. According to The Daily Collegian, David Janifer faces rape and sexual assault charges. Ferguson Township police say the woman invited Janifer to dinner, but Janifer became angry and left when the woman was on the phone with another man. He later returned to the apartment, forced the woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her. A roommate eventually ended the confrontation. Janifer is being held in Centre County prison.
