pedestrian’s legs crushed
ALTOONA POLICE TELL THE ALTOONA MIRROR THAT 27 YEAR OLD MEAGAN ALEXANDER OF MINERAL POINT WAS HIGH ON DRUGS WHEN SHE SLAMMED HER MINI-VAN INTO A ROW OF PARKED VEHICLES ON 7TH AVENUE EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING. 47 YEAR OLD PATRICK DAMIANO OF ALTOONA WAS STANDING BETWEEN 2 S-U-V’S AT THE TIME AND HIS LEGS WERE PINNED. HE SUFFERED MULTIPLE FRACTURES AND IS FACING A STRING OF SURGERIES. aNOTHER DRIVER WAS BANGED UP, BUT DID NOT SUFFER SERIOUS INJURIES. ALEXANDER IS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON WITH A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED OCTOBER 23RD.
2 dead in johnstown
911 dispatchers tell WJAC that the bodies of a man and a woman were found inside a house on Benshoff Street in THE MINERSVILLE SECTION OF Johnstown AROUND 9:20 LAST NIGHT. Police cordoned off the entire block, but the coroner’s office says the incident is isolated and they are not looking for a suspect. MORE DETAILS ARE EXPECTED TODAY.

testimony is scheduled to begin today for THE murder TRIAL OF A FORMER CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON INMATE. 22 YEAR OLD WILLIAM CRAMER IS ACCUSED OF USING A BEDSHEET TO STRANGLE HIS CELLMATE, 28 YEAR OLD WILLIAM SHERRY OF Northern Cambria IN AUGUST OF LAST YEAR…THEN TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE SUICIDE. THEY HAD ONLY BEEN SHARING THE CELL FOR A FEW HOURS AND CRAMER WAS AWAITING TRANsFER TO A STATE LOCKUP.
mom pleads in drug ring case
IN JOHNSTOWN’S FEDERAL COURT YESTERDAY, MARGUERITE LOWMASTER OF CARROLLTOWN pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to deliver marijuana. She admitted to conspiring with HER SON, George Lowmaster, THE ACCUSED KINGPIN OF A HUGE drug ring that INVOLVED DOZENS OF PEOPLE AND OPERATED throughout Cambria County. MARGUERITE FACES UP To 5 years in prison WHEN She’S sentenced February 25th. JURY SELECTION FOR GEORGE LOWMASTER’S TRIAL IS TO BEGIN OCTOBER 28TH. HE’S LOOKING AT life in prison if convicted on all charges. LOWMASTER’S FATHER, GERALD, IS ALSO HEADED TO COURT.
altoona’s crime problem
Altoona Police Chief Janice Freehling presented her annual crime report to Altoona City Council last night and she says serious crime reports were down 13-percent last year from the previous year…but in the first 6 months of this year, serious crime jumped 14-percent. freehling says that’s because there are fewer cops on the street due to Act 47. according to the altoona mirror…last year, The Department did not fill 4 vacancies when 9 officers retired. the city is budgeted for 66 officers, but there have been delays due to training requirements. several new cops have been hired and should be on patrol soon.
