TODAY IS PENNSYLVANIA’S PRIMARY ELECTION AND POLLS ARE OPEN FROM 7AM UNTIL 8PM. THE KEY RACES ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE INCLUDE THE 5-WAY U-S SENATE RACE. THE CANDIDATES ARE DAVID CHRISTIAN, SAM ROHRER, MARC SCARINGI, TOM SMITH, AND STEVE WELCH. THE PENNSYLVANIA AUDITOR GENERAL RACE BETWEEN G-O-P REPRESENTATIVE JOHN MAHER AND FRANK PINTO. AND THE G-O-P PRESIDENTIAL RACE WITH FRONT RUNNER MITT ROMNEY EXPECTED TO BEAT NEWT GINGRICH AND RON PAUL. FORMER PENNSYLVANIA SENATOR RICK SANTORUM DROPPED OUT OF THE RACE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. IN BLAIR COUNTY, THE BIGGEST LOCAL BATTLE IS BETWEEN INCUMBENT STATE REPRESENTATIVE RICK GEIST AND HIS CHALLENGER JOHN MCGINNIS IN THE 79TH DISTRICT REPUBLICAN PRIMARY. IN THE 12TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT, 2 INCUMBENT DEMOCRATIC CONGRESSMEN ARE FACING OFF…MARK CRITZ AND JASON ALTMIRE. AND PATRICK MURPHY AND KATHLEEN KANE ARE SEEKING THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL. ALTHOUGH THE NEW VOTER IDENTIFICATION LAW DOESN’T TAKE EFFECT UNTIL

BEFORE THE SENTENCE WAS HANDED DOWN, HORNER’S RELATIVES TESTIFIED THAT HIS MILITARY SERVICE CHANGED HIM AND HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING THE DAY OF THE SHOOTINGS. HORNER WILL SERVE HIS TIME AT THE STATE PRISON AT CAMP HILL. HIS ATTORNEY IS WORKING ON AN APPEAL.

VEHICULAR HOMICIDE CASE WILL GO TO TRIAL

IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, 32 YEAR OLD DALE MALLOY JUNIOR OF VINTONDALE WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING ON CHARGES INCLUDING HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE. BACK IN DECEMBER, MALLOY WAS INTOXICATED WHEN HE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE ON CHICKAREE HILL ROAD IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP, KILLING HIS PASSENGER, 26-YEAR-OLD KAYLYNN REYNOLDS OF VINTONDALE. MALLOY IS FREE ON BAIL.

PATERNO FAMILY SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT

PENN STATE ISSUED A STATEMENT YESTERDAY SAYING THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES DID NOT DISCUSS RE-NAMING BEAVER STADIUM AS PART OF CONTRACT DISCUSSIONS WITH JOE PATERNO’S FAMILY….AND PATERNO SPOKESMAN DAN MCGINN CONFIRMS THIS. OVER THE WEEKEND, THE HARRISBURG PATRIOT NEWS CITED AN ANONYMOUS SOURCE WHO SAID THE UNIVERSITY HAD OFFERED TO CHANGE THE STADIUM’S NAME IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET THE FAMILY TO SIGN AWAY ITS RIGHT TO SUE THE SCHOOL. MCGINN’S STATEMENT SAYS IT WAS AN HONOR PATERNO NEVER DESIRED, BUT HE DID LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR FUTURE DISCUSSIONS ON THE TOPIC AT AN APPROPRIATE TIME.

MEANWHILE, SOURCES TELL WJAC TV THAT THE RECENT FIRING OF PENN STATE ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR MARK SHERBURNE IS CONNECTED TO THE PERJURY CASE AGAINST FORMER ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SCHULTZ. AT A RECENT PRESS CONFERENCE, ACTING ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DAVID JOYNER WOULD ONLY CONFIRM THAT SHERBURNE WAS RELEASED FOR A “HUMAN RELATIONS ISSUE.” ONE SOURCE TELLS THE TV STATION THAT NEW INFORMATION RECENTLY OBTAINED COULD BE “DEVASTATING” TO CURLEY AND SCHULTZ WHO ARE ACCUSED OF LYING TO A GRAND JURY ABOUT ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL MISCONDUCT AGAINST JERRY SANDUSKY.

PENN STATE DRUG DEALER SENTENCED

A CENTRE COUNTY JUDGE YESTERDAY SENTENCED FORMER PENN STATE STUDENT PAUL SPARA TO 1 TO 2 YEARS IN PRISON FOR HIS PART IN A DRUG RING AT PENN STATE. SPARA WAS ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING UP TO 50 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA EACH WEEK FROM NEW YORK TO HAPPY VALLEY BETWEEN JANUARY 2006 AND DECEMBER 2007. SPARA MAY END UP DOING HIS TIME UNDER IN-HOUSE ARREST.
