STATE Police in Huntingdon County are LOOKing for 2 teenagers who were last seen over the weekend. 17 YEAR OLD Sofia Varner and 15 YEAR OLD Lyza Spyker, both of Alexandria, were reported missing by their families. they may be in a red 2006 Honda CRV. SOFIA last used her cell phone at about 12:30am MONDAY and used a bank card in the Hollidaysburg area around 1am. Her phone has since been registered inactive. Anyone with information about the girls whereabouts IS asked to cALL the Huntingdon barracks at 627-31-61.
DUNCANSVILLE HOUSE FIRE
NO ONE WAS INJURED WHEN A FIRE BROKE OUT LAST NIGHT AT A HOUSE NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 4TH AVENUE AND 13TH STREET IN DUNCANSVILLE. POLICE CHIEF JIM OTT TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR NO ONE WAS HOME AT THE TIME. NO WORD YET ON THE EXTENT OF DAMAGE OR THE CAUSE.
SON ORDERED TO TRIAL FOR HAMMER ATTACK
FOLLOWING A PRELIMINARY HEARING MONDAY, 30 YEAR OLD MATTHEW BALDESSARO OF TYRONE WAS ORDERED TO STAND TRIAL ON ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES. POLICE SAY HE BEAT HIS MOTHER, DEBRA, WITH A SLEDGEHAMMER ON NEW YEAR’S EVE. THE 55 YEAR OLD WOMAN SUFFERED MANY FACIAL FRACTURES, A BRAIN INJURY, AND BROKEN RIBS.
FAMILY MEMBERS TOLD POLICE BALDESSARO RECENTLY LEFT REHAB AND WAS ANGRY THAT HE DIDN’T HAVE ANY PILLS. HE REMAINS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON ON A HALF MILLION DOLLARS BOND.
WOMAN THROWS INFANT
Johnstown POLICE SAY 20 YEAR OLD TYANNE HAMER IS BEHIND BARS after she threw her 4-month-old baby as STATE AND LOCAL AGENTS were searching her apartment for drugs AND SEIZED SOME HEROIN. IT HAPPENED FRIDAY at THE Oakhurst Homes. HAMER’S 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TOLD POLICE HOW HER MOTHER BOILS HEROIN, PUTS IT IN A NEEDLE, AND GIVES HERSELF A SHOT IN THE ARM. A 3 YEAR OLD CHILD ALSO LIVES IN THE APARTMENT. Relatives are caring for the children.
DRUG KINGPIN PLEADS GUILTY
35 YEAR OLD DAMION FLOYD OF BALTIMORE WAS IN BLAIR COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, PLEADING GUILTY TO BEING THE LEADER OF A COCAINE RING OPERATING OUT OF ALTOONA’S CORNER BAR & GRILL. HE RAN THE OPERATION FROM A STATE PRISON WHERE HE WAS SERVING 4 TO 8 YEARS ON ANOTHER DRUG CONVICTION. FLOYD WILL SPEND AT LEAST 23 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THIS CASE. 14 OTHER MEMBERS OF THE DRUG RING WERE ALSO BUSTED.
