3 KILLED IN WRECKS

A FATAL CRASH SUNDAY MORNING IN BLAIR COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY S. GRANT GAULT OF ALTOONA DIED AFTER SUFFERING MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS WHILE DRIVING. HE HIT A TREE ALONG SKELP MOUNTAIN ROAD IN ANTIS TOWNSHIP.

A BIG RIG DRIVER DIED SATURDAY MORNING AFTER A CRASH ON THE TURNPIKE IN BEDFORD COUNTY. POLICE SAY 31 YEAR OLD DAMION LOBBAN FELL ASLEEP WHILE GOING AROUND A CURVE IN WEST PROVIDENCE TOWNSHIP. THE TRUCK HIT AN EMBANKMENT AND THEN OVERTURNED. 32 YEAR OLD BENJAMIN BLUE, WHO WAS SLEEPING IN THE SLEEPER SECTION, WAS THROWN FROM THE RIG ALONG WITH LOBBAN. BLUE SUFFERED MAJOR INJURIES.

A DEADLY WRECK ON THE TURNPIKE IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY SUNDAY MORNING. STATE POLICE SAY TSAI-LING YANG OF TAIWAN DIED AFTER THE S-U-V SHE WAS RIDING IN CRASHED ON THE SNOW AND SLUSH COVERED HIGHWAY IN DUBLIN TOWNSHIP. YANG WAS THROWN FROM THE WRECKAGE.

ROADWORK IN STATE COLLEGE

South Allen Street between South Atherton Street and Hutchinson Way will be reduced to a single lane today from 7:30 am until 5 pm. Public works crews are repairing a sanitary sewer line through the area. Anyone with questions should contact the department at 234-7135.

HUGE FIRE

AT LEAST 18 ROW HOUSES WERE DESTROYED OR SEVERELY DAMAGED LAST EVENING WHEN FIRE BROKE OUT AT JUNIATA TERRACE IN LEWISTOWN, MIFFLIN COUNTY. ALL THE RESIDENTS MADE IT OUT SAFELY, BUT SEVERAL FIREFIGHTERS WERE INJURED. ONE SUFFERED BURNS TO HIS SHOULDERS AND CHEST AND THE OTHER HAD AN ARM INJURY. A FEW WERE ALSO TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH ELEVATED HEART RATES. THERE'S SPECULATION THAT A GREASE FIRE SPARKED THIS MASSIVE BLAZE. OFFICIALS WILL BE INVESTIGATING TODAY.

Northwestern PSU Response

PennState is supporting NorthwesternUniversity’s decision to appeal the National Labor Relations Board ruling that Northwestern football players are employees of their university and therefore can unionize.

PennState spokesperson Lisa Powers said in a statement to the Patriot News that “PennState is fully committed to the bedrock principles of amateurism and we believe that all PennState student-athletes are students, not employees.
